At Adam Atman Acupuncture in Campbell, CA, nutritional guidance is uniquely informed and rooted in 2,500 years of Traditional East Asian Medicine and refined by over four decades of contemporary nutritional research and personal experimentation. You receive individualized support that deeply honors your body, history, constitution, and lifestyle. Whether you struggle with allergies, fatigue, weight, or digestion, we help you craft strategies that are effective and sustainable.

My Story

As a child and teenager, I had terrible allergies. Every year, I was completely congested, generally for months at a time. When I was 16 years old, I read a book about healing allergies with a “mucus free diet“. This diet consisted of taking out the dairy and white flour products which were a staple of my life growing up in England in the 1960s. The results were amazing! For the first time in my life, I could breathe freely during the spring and summer. This began my journey into exploring the effects of diet and nutrition on health. Over the years I have explored many diets: macrobiotic, vegetarian, raw food diets, juicing, juice fasting, 10 day fasts, the Ejuva cleanse and my current favorite: high protein and lots of green and non-starchy vegetables.

Eating Your Way To Health

As I have had many health-conscious patients, I’ve been able to study the effects of diet trends on many people over the last 40 years:  vegetarian, macrobiotic, vegan, raw food, paleo, keto, carnivore etc. Generally, I have noticed that reducing carbs is an important strategy!  We live in a world where the current epidemics are heart disease and cancer, both fueled by carbohydrates and sugars, which cause weight gain, obesity, digestive problems, diabetes, chronic inflammation, auto-immune challenges and allergic reactivity.

Truly personalized health and diet strategies

In Silicon Valley, innovation, performance, and well-being often intersect. Truly personalized health and diet strategies work great for high performers, sustaining them and providing a foundation for a lifetime of energy and good health.  As an acupuncturist and traditional East Asian medical herbalist I help individuals optimize their health through customized diet, nutrition, and supplement plans grounded in centuries-old wisdom and refined by contemporary research and experience in the wellness space.

Beyond Fad Diets: A Holistic, Individualized Approach

Many clients come to my Campbell clinic after trying popular diets, only to find that they don’t feel better, or worse they feel depleted. That’s because there is no one-size-fits-all solution. In traditional East Asian medicine, we view the body as a dynamic system where diet must align with each person’s unique constitution, lifestyle, and current state of health.

For example, someone with a “cold” constitution, who often feels chilly, has poor digestion, or a fatigue, may worsen their symptoms with raw foods, tofu and smoothies—even if they’re organic and nutrient-dense. A warm, cooked, and gently spiced diet may be far more supportive. Conversely, someone with excess “heat” may benefit from cooling foods like sprouts, soybeans and leafy greens.

This is the power of the right personalized nutrition plan—one that is rooted in diagnostic insights from tongue and pulse analysis, lifestyle assessment, and real-life observation. The result? Much easier recovery from illness and disease, sustainable wellness, better energy, calmer mind and improved digestion.

Functional Supplements Meet Ancient Wisdom

In Silicon Valley, many people are supplement-savvy but often overwhelmed by the sheer number of options—or worse, taking supplements that don’t suit their body. My approach integrates modern nutritional science with the depth of East Asian herbal knowledge. I pay close attention to longevity research in the nutrition and supplement field and  create targeted, effective supplement strategies based on your individual constitutional and health situation.

I regularly see patients who are unknowingly exacerbating symptoms with the wrong herbs or vitamins. For example, turmeric is widely used for inflammation, but in East Asian traditional medical terms, it has a warm and drying nature that may not be appropriate for someone already experiencing dryness or heat signs, like night sweats or irritability.

Instead, we might turn to classical East Asian herbs like huang qin (skullcap) or zhi mu (anemarrhena), which clear heat while supporting internal fluids. Likewise, adaptogens like reishi, ashwagandha and astragalus can be helpful for stress and immune support, but only if they’re matched to your underlying pattern.

Integrating Traditional East Asian Medicine With Western Nutrition For Optimal Health

At my practice in Campbell, I regularly collaborate with clients who are engineers, executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives—people who want a pragmatic, results-driven approach to health. I blend the precision of traditional East Asian medical diagnosis with Western nutritional insight to recommend dietary choices that work in real-world schedules, including meal planning and supplement timing. Clients often see improvements in digestion, mood, sleep, and focus within days to weeks. And because the guidance is rooted in a long-term view of health, many report fewer colds, improved resilience, better energy level, improved sleep and better aging over time.
